Today is National Missing Children’s Day.

On this day, 33 years ago, a 6 year old boy named Etan Patz vanished. Etan was the first ever missing child to be pictured on the side of a milk carton and his disappearance helped spark new legislation that would eventually lead to such things as the AMBER alert system. Yesterday it was announced that a man is in custody who confesses to killing the boy. However, his story cannot be confirmed because a body is yet to be found.

I pray that Etan’s family may receive answers soon and also that those children who are still missing safely return home.

Everything about this story is sad, but the fact that the parents stayed at the same apartment with the same phone number in hopes he would be found, is like someone putting a knife in your heart and twisting it. Closure? Finally…but that hurt will never be healed.
